Vigorous efforts has been made to evolute technology for the next generation. Technology developing such as ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) and electric/hybrid vehicles, not to mention an extensive industrial infrastructure based on the automobile industry.
Located in the center of the Aichi Acedemic Research and Development Zone, the city is also expected to make a commitment to expanding information and high-tech industries.
Toyota City is a promising area because it is located in the center of Japan, and intermodal transportation will be attained with many types of high-speed transport systems and by improving the Second Tomei and Tokai Loop Highways.

Second Tomei/Tokai Loop Highways
- The Second Tomei/Meishin Expressways will connect Tokyo and Kobe by 6 lanes through the entire line. Tokai Loop Highway connect cities like Toyota, Gifu, Ogaki, and Yokkaichi. At present 4 interchanges and 2 junctions improve for Toyota City, providing smoother high-speed transportation.
Linear Central Shinkansen
- The Linear Central Shinkansen will connect Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka by a travel time of about 1 hour. This will bring the 3 metropolitan areas much closer, and is expected to facilitate and vitalize business. The Linear Central Shinkansen may be considered a means of transportation that meets demands in the new era of exchanges and brings the center of Japan together.

Industry
- Since inviting the location of Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. (current Toyota Motor Corp.) factories in 1938, Toyota City has developed as Japan's leading "city of automobiles." The total sold amount of manufactured products is first prize, for 2 consecutive years. "Manufacturing" industry, mainly automobile-related industry, converges here.
City functions
- Toyota City became the first core city in Aichi prefecture in April, 1998. City functions and government services have been further enhanced. 2 looplines (inner and outer) are being improved in the city. The city is also committed to enhancing the traffic network in such efforts as ITS model area.
Nature
- You may think that Toyota City is an industrial town, but more than 70% of the total city area is forest and farmland. This is a city rich in greenery, blessed with abundant natural environment. Several rivers flow through the city, foremost the Yahagi River. There are also sightseeing spots everywhere that take advantage of nature.
Culture
- Toyota City is birthplace of Matsudaira family, known as ancestor of Tokugawa family, has many historic sites and important cultural assets testify its long history. A multi-ball sports stadium equipped with movable roofs constracted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the municipality. Toyota City also provides museums, concert hall, Noh theater, and libraries.

Roads
- High-speed transport systems are fully developed, such as the Tomei Expressway, Meishin Expressway, Chuo/Tokai-Hokuriku/Higashi-Meihan/Ise Bay Expressways, Nagoya Expressway, and Chita Peninsula Road. Completion of the Second Tomei Expressway and Tokai Loop Highway will make access smoother to other regions.
Airports
- Chubu International Airport is the gateway of the air connecting 25 cities in Japan and 30 cities around the world. Completion of the Tokai Loop Highway and the Ise coast road provide smooth access to Airport. Shuttle bus service is also available from Toyota City to the airport. This airport is located about 35km from Toyota City.
Raidroads
- Meitetsu has two lines: Toyota line directly connected to Nagoya municipal subway, and Mikawa line. On the other hand, Aichi Loop Line connects the Seto City/Tono area and Okazaki area. From the large-area perspective, Tokaido Shinkansen stations are located in Nagoya City and Anjo City, which is adjacent to Toyota City. Both suburban and long-distance railroad access is smooth.
Ports
- Maritime distribution is also fully developed in Aichi Prefecture. For example, the Port of Nagoya is an especially important harbor which handles freight of about 138,38 million tons per year. (Source: Nagoya Port Authority, 2002) The Port of Mikawa is a major port and the core of the coastal industrial site.

- As an ITS model area, Toyota City actively conducts experiments on alleviation of congestion, especially in urban areas (road traffic information system, park & ride, EV sharing, FS, etc.). Toyota City provides plenty of ITS-related business opportunities.
Eco-cars
- Both of public and private sectors are positively using eco-cars like electric and hybrid vehicles. Eco-cars, now as center of attention for next generation transportation, are incuvating related business steadily.
